Colin Conrad Trautman was born on May 16, 1960 in Brookings, South Dakota to Virgil and Eleanor (Palmer) Trautman. He was raised in Lake Benton, Minnesota, was baptized and confirmed in the local Lutheran Church, and graduated from Lake Benton Public School in 1978. After his graduation, Colin moved to Greybull, Wyoming and worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway where he made several lifelong friends. While in Greybull, he met his future wife, Doris Bueckers of Freeport, Minnesota. They married on November 27, 1982, shared three children, and later divorced. Colin lived in Wyoming for the remainder of his life, in the shade of the majestic Big Horn Mountains. He kept his permanent residence in Shell, Wyoming and built invaluable friendships with the Shell community members.

Colin was an avid ball player and fostered a lifelong passion for sports. He was a devoted University of Wyoming Cowboys fan and had a great knack for sports trivia and statistics. Colin enjoyed the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family. He was also a hobby photographer and enjoyed photographing the world around him; his perspective was truly unique.

Colin was refreshingly honest and enjoyed a good joke. He was curious, intuitive, and often times wiser than his years. Colin had a big heart and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. He loved his dogs, horses, and collecting old Dodge cars—but most of all he loved his family. His grandchildren (twins!) were his pride and joy. Colin also had great faith, even if he may not have understood God’s plan for him.

Colin passed away unexpectedly in Basin, Wyoming on September 2, 2019. He was 59 years old. Colin is lovingly remembered by his children, Nicole (David) Haynes and Chad (Kaylee) Trautman; his grandchildren, Ayden and Aspen Trautman; his siblings, Pam (Richard) Hansen of Horace, North Dakota; Wanda (Gary) Hansen of Greybull, Wyoming; Gloria (Chuck) Gackstetter of Tyler, Minnesota; Dean (Karla) Trautman of Clear Lake, South Dakota; and Thea (Randy) Keifer of Tyler, Minnesota, and his sister-in-law Ellie (Mark) Trautman of Lake Benton, Minnesota; his nieces and nephews; and many other friends and family members who will miss him dearly. Colin is preceded in death by his daughter Paula Jo Trautman, his parents, and his brother Mark Trautman. He is rejoicing with the Lord, and he is at peace.

Colin’s Wyoming community will celebrate his memory on September 13, 2019 in Shell, Wyoming. His funeral and interment will be at St. John’s Immanuel Cemetery in Verdi, Minnesota on September 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, well-wishers may make a donation to the Colin Trautman Memorial Fund c/o Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, 33 N. 6th Street, Greybull, Wyoming 82426.
