Calvin Thompson Obituary

Calvin Lowe Thompson, 85, of Lovell, peacefully passed away at his home in Lovell on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, with his son Dennis by his side. He was born on March 28, 1936, to Calvin Arthur and LuNita Lowe Thompson in the Kane area. Calvin was the fourth child of five children and the only son. His four sisters are Wanda Hammond, Lorna Asay, Geneva Gilmore, and Ruth Tippetts.

Calvin grew up on the farm and attended Lovell High School, graduating in 1955. He was drafted and inducted into the U.S. Army in July of 1958. He did his training at Fort Carson, Colorado. After his training, he was given duties and stationed in Germany, where he served for two years. The highlight of his service was meeting Elvis Presley and shaking his hand when Elvis stayed at his barracks. Calvin always made sure everyone knew about meeting Elvis.

While in Germany, his mother insisted that he write a letter to Parthena Mayes, which he did.  This started a continued correspondence between the two that continued until he returned in July 1960. They began a courtship and were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 1st, 1960.

Calvin worked at the Cannery until he secured a job with the Wyoming Highway Department in 1962.  Calvin worked for the Highway Department for 33 years. He retired in April of 1995. After retirement, he spent his time hauling sugar beets for Stan Asay during harvest.

He spent many hours in the spring and summer growing a magnificent garden and tinkering around the house. His favorite times though were spending time with his children and their families: Max, Lynette and Tony Frost, Dennis, Cathy Allred Thompson, Cara Scheeler Thompson; grandchildren: Jessica and Saul Angula, Stepfanie Thompson, Jaymond Thompson, Mikayla and Isaac Schroeder, Brady and Brianna Thompson, Debbie and Matt McPeek, Charlee and John McPeek, Caden Zeller, Chasnee Zeller, Chareasa Zeller, Carstyn Fowler; great-grandchildren: Isabella Angulo, Ivery Angulo, Ember and Blaze Thompson, and Octavia Zeller; but, most of all his Eternal Companion Parthena .

Calvin is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Parthena Mayes Thompson, his sister Wanda Hammond, and his great-grandson Saul Anthony.

He is survived by his sisters Lorna, Geneva, and Ruth, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 23rd from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Lovell Cemetery.
