Carole attended school in Lovell and then Greybull when her family moved to Otto.
Carole married Paul Patrick in 1950 and had 2 children: Kay Gray and Gilbert Patrick. They divorced soon after. Carole raised both children with the help of her parents. She moved with them to Idaho and then Utah where she worked as a secretary for an insurance company in Salt Lake City. They returned to Lovell 64 years ago where they lived next door to each other. Carole and the kids lived in Grandma Durfee’s old house.
Carole was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many callings including 5 missions later in life.
She married Clark Bassett September 1, 1978, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They lived in his home in Gillette, WY from their wedding until 1984 when they moved back to Lovell to her little house. Soon after moving to Lovell, they went on a mission to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 18 months. When they returned home, they lived in a camper in the back yard while they tore down the little house and started building a new solid brick home. Clark was a brick layer by trade and Carole became the hod carrier.
In 1988, they returned to Honduras for another 18-month mission. Upon their return, they continued to lay brick to earn money for another mission. They worked together helping to build schools in Wyoming for Jay Wardell.
Their third mission in Montevideo, Uruguay was from 1993-1994. Again, upon their return, they laid bricks to earn money. They added the garage with a quilting room to their home between jobs. They were also temple workers in the Billings, Montana Temple.
In 2009 they went on a 4th mission to San Jose, Costa Rica. They taught many youths to dance western folk dances there and were loved for it. While in Costa Rica, they worked in the San Jose Temple.
Their final mission in 2013-2014 was back in Honduras. They started their mission at the dedication of the Tegucigalpa Temple and spent the entire time working in the temple.
