Daniel Tippetts Obituary

Daniel “Dan” Isaac Tippetts passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at age 71, in his hometown of Cowley.

Dan was born on May 21, 1949, in Lovell, Wyoming. He was the 7th of 10 children born to Marion Eugene Tippetts and Ona Toynette Baird. He loved each of his siblings- Sherrill Ann, Tom, Jim, Mark, Jean, Judy, Shelley, Dean, and Cindy and constantly bragged about their and their children’s accomplishments.

Dan spent almost his entire life in Lovell or Cowley. He spent a couple of years working on farms in North Dakota and Minnesota, but eventually ended up back in his beloved hometown of Lovell. He loved the Big Horn Mountains and all the surrounding areas of Lovell and some of his most cherished memories are from here.

Dan always took great pride in the years of service to our country in the Army. He was drafted into the Army to go to Vietnam. He was sent home from Vietnam after getting injured and earned a Purple Heart. After Vietnam, he went into the Army National Guard and served there for many years, retiring in 2009, after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 1971, he married Vickie Lynn Hampton and to this union, 6 wonderful kids were born- Stacy Lynn, John Daniel, Joshua Hampton, Trisha Jeanine, Autumn, and Sherrill Ann. Dan took great pride and delight in his children and loved them all very much. He loved all of the trips, vacations, camping outings, and 4-wheeling adventures he was able to participate in with his family.

Dan was a hardworking guy and spent 34 years working at Georgia Pacific. He worked his way up to Electrician at the time of his retirement in 2013. Dan made the most of his retirement, however, by making sure he traveled and enjoyed all life had to offer. Retirement allowed him to spend more time with his grandkids and doing what he loved the most- temple work. Dan loved family history and doing temple work for the dead. He kept his family enthralled for many hours with stories of Baird and Tippetts ancestors.

Dan not only loved temple work but kept himself busy with his other hobbies and interests- sewing, cooking, traveling, camping, and four-wheeling. Some of his kids’ fondest memories were of some the experimental recipes he used to make for them at their weekly family dinners. His infamous Strawberry-Onion Salad was one of their best memories and taught them what not to do when experimenting on your family. He also enjoyed the trips his family went on whenever one of his grandkids graduated from high school. He was always a trooper and kept up most of the time when his family decided to go on some crazy hike or adventure that required him to swing from a zip line or walk 3 miles to a castle they spotted off in the distance.

If you ever passed or got stuck behind a little black Toyota RAV or a blue Chevy Silverado going 12 miles per hour between Lovell and Cowley, it was probably Dan. He liked to drive at his own pace which would switch to Mach 3 going up the mountain. Trust us, though, slower was for the best, as he once got a citation for swerving while eating French fries.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sherrill Ann Tippetts, his brother, Mark Tippetts, his parents, Marion and Toynette Tippetts, his grandsons, Hayden Scogin and Chase Davison, and a son-in-law, Josh Davison.

Dan is survived by his children, Stacy (Alan) Southworth of Cowley, John Tippetts of China, Joshua (Stacey) Tippetts of Cowley, Trisha (David) Hayes of Cowley, Autumn Davison of Cowley, and Sherrill (Jeremy) Scogin of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by the many lights of his life, his 13 grandchildren- Miranda (Mark) Ferguson, Jasper and Stacia Tippetts, Kaitlyn, Rylee, Kyra, and Jaxon Hayes, Hailey, Zoey, McKayla, and Ashlynn Davison, Maddie and Greyson Scogin. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Ethan Ferguson.
