Sergeant John Curtis Sealy, age 23, died on May 24th 2021, in Wyoming from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
John was born June 24th 1997, in Mobile, Alabama. John was a loving, caring, determined, strong minded person. He was a loyal and fierce friend and was loved deeply by so many. He would go out of his way to help anyone who needed it without expecting anything in return. He was always there for his Marine Corps brothers.
John graduated from Fairhope High School May 2016, which led him to answer the call of the United States Marine Corps. John left for basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on June 20th 2016, on a journey to become a Reconnaissance Marine. This rigorous journey led him from MCRD Parris Island, to School of Infantry West aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. His commitment, hard work and dedication paid off as he achieved all of his goals and earned the title of Reconnaissance Marine. John would then spend the next chapter of his life assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion aboard Camp Pendleton, California. He spent many months away attending various training courses such as Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape (SERE), Army Airborne Course, USMC Combatant Diver Course, Mountain Communications Course, and Summer Mountain Leaders Course. While attending his Corporals Course, he earned the honor graduate for achieving the highest GPA and Physical Fitness standards of all students. Later he was forward deployed to Norway. During his Marine Corps Career, John achieved the rank of Sergeant, three expert rifle qualification badges, one expert pistol qualification badge, and a Brown Belt in Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, Basic Parachutist Insignia, Combat Diver Insignia, and an individual Certificate of Commendation.
He is survived by: his grandparents Michael Sealy (Linda), and Carol Cowan (Roy), his loving parents Michael and Cindy (Thrasher) Sealy, his devoted sister Abby Roberts (Bryan), his aunts and uncles Amy Dimario (Nick) and Jim Sealy (Ann), his first cousins Mia, Sophia and Gabby DiMario, and Anna, Harrison and Steele Sealy. In addition to family, he leaves behind some of the finest Marine Corps brothers we have ever met.
The memorial service will be held at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach, AL.
