Marcelene "Marcy" Nelson Obituary

Marcy Joy (Hainline) Nelson, 86, passed away peacefully on the evening of December 6, 2021, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell, Wyoming.

Services will be held at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell, Wyoming at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021. Marcy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Penrose Cemetery in Byron, Wyoming.

Marcy was born on November 20, 1935, in Bonaparte, Iowa to Leslie and Cordelia Hainline. After graduating high school, Marcy followed her newspaper career to Wyoming. There she met Marvin Nelson at a boarding house in Torrington.  Marcy and Marv were married on June 15, 1957, and were together for 58 years, spending most of those years in Northwest Iowa, where they raised their four sons. When Marv retired in 1999, they moved from their long-time home in Merrill, Iowa, back West to finally settle in Lovell, Wyoming, just 33 miles from where they met.

Marcy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a fierce protector of the people she loved. Marcy was an amazing cook, and she made the biggest Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinners. She loved broasted
chicken, country music, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Marcy and Marv also loved to travel. Their favorite trips were to Mackinac Island, Alaska and visiting relatives in southeast Iowa.  In their retirement, they loved to explore the backroads of Montana and Wyoming. Marcy was also an avid reader and she collected hundreds of books by her favorite authors. Marcy had an incredible memory. She loved to talk, and she loved sharing her stories about growing up in Iowa, and about the antiques she collected and cherished.

Marcy is survived by her sons Mark (Marlene) of Spirit Lake Iowa, Monte of Port Protection, Alaska, and Morrey (Bubba) of Owensboro, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Joshua, Kerri, Melanie, Melissa, Christopher, Ryan and Erin, and nine great-grandchildren: John, Marlo, Elizabeth, David, Fischer, Michael, Leslie, Sydney, and Sloan; and her sister Agnes Graybeal of Maryland.

She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her brother Bruce, her sisters Madge and Garnet, her son Michael and daughter-in-law Janet.
