Pamela Corrine (Dingman) Mayer

Pamela Corrine Dingman Mayer was born July 7, 1931, in Oilmont, Montana in Toole County. She was born in a tarpaper house, owned by Marathon Oil, to her parents John and Lillian Dingman with her older sister Mary Lou. After Pam came Helen Irene and then her brother John Byron Jr. They were a happy family. They raised goats which Pam loved. Her dad was eventually transferred to Grass Creek, Wyoming. It is after moving to Wyoming that people started calling her Pamela which stuck. Grass Creek is located 35 miles away from Thermopolis, in which she and the other children had to ride the bus to and from school every day, which gave them time to do their homework. Pamela graduated high school from the Thermopolis City School and started attending Northwest Community College to become a secretary because she was a great typist.

It was during this time she went to a Cowley dance and met Walter Mayer. They were married in Grass Creek on December 16th,1950. Then the following years they brought Robert into the world, followed by Carol. Also, during this time Pamela was baptized and became very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. On October 6, 1960, Pam and Walt were sealed in the Logan Temple. Pam worked in primary, relief society and young Women’s.

 She especially loved working with the children, and if there was a baby around, she made sure she was holding them and loving them. The young women were another group she loved working with. She loved them so much she would take them tubing down the canal and river rafting- even though she could not swim.

A hobby she enjoyed was quilting and tying quilts for her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was the garden. This included picking the first ripe tomato of the season and digging up the potatoes. With this she got to can, and most importantly cook for her family which she loved. She made the best watermelon pickles and tomato soup.

As many of you know she was a very kind person, as experienced as her time working in Dr. Welch’s office. She was always there to lend a hand when needed, console anyone who asked, and send out an angel food cake or banana cream pie.

She loved being a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, as well as a great-great grandmother, even though she was great long before they showed up.

She is survived by her sister Helen Irene, her son and his wife, Robert and Ruth Mayer and their 5 children, her daughter and her husband, Carol and Cliff Shultz and their 2 children, as well as 22 Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. She lived a beautiful and wonderful life and will be missed by every friend and family member.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Lillian Dingman, her sister Mary Lu, her brother John Byron Jr, and her Eternal Companion and loving Husband Walter Mayer.
