Robert McIntosh Obituary

Robert M. McIntosh, age 90, passed away Sunday, January 3, at the West Park Hospital in Cody.

He was born to Ira and Della McIntosh at home in Burlington on December 5, 1930, the seventh of twelve children. Virtually all of his life he lived on the family farm in Burlington, which he acquired from his father.  Being at home on the farm was the only place he truly wanted to be.  It was one place he was happiest.

A love of animals was a characteristic he seemed to have almost from birth, which lasted throughout his life.  He had a sheep operation numbering as many as 2,200 ewes and was a member of the Otter Creek Grazing Association, and the Wyoming Woolgrowers Association. In 1981, he focused his attention on cattle and row crops, from which he “retired” in 1993, when farming operations transitioned to his son, Dale.

He attended schools in Burlington where he graduated in 1949, having excelled academically and in sports. He attended Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) on a football scholarship, where he played both varsity football and varsity basketball.

He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and always actively participated, having provided full-time missionary service from 1954 to 1956. He found satisfaction in working with the youth of the Church, showing keen interest in them even long after his official service ended. One confided, “He was always so kind to me, asked about my life, and seemed genuinely interested; I felt like he was my cheerleader.”

His greatest joy came from his home life. He married Carol Partridge in Salt Lake City on December 30, 1957. They were as nearly a perfect match for each other as one might imagine. To this union were born children: Robert, Dale, Ruth and Glenn, all of whom survive along with his wife who resides at home in Burlington. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers Gordon of Kaysville, Utah, Howard of Magna, Utah; and an extended family of numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Laverne Shanor, Gertrude Vogelsberg, Iris Lunt, Eleanor Bates, and brothers “Red,” Gene, Ira (Udell), Duane, and Donald.

He will be remembered for his good humor, patience, wisdom, kindness, and gentle ways. His advice in handling a stubborn horse was, “Be gentle, but firm,” which in the last analysis defines the person he was. He is very much loved and will be very much missed by those who knew him.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Burlington, with Bishop Jay Neves officiating.  Friends may greet family in the Relief Society room of the Church beginning one hour before the service. Burial will follow in the Burlington Cemetery.  Haskell Funeral Home, Lovell, Wyoming, is in charge of arrangements.
