Vickie Jean Averett was born on March 28, 1940, to Emma Belle Mowry and Ivan Osher Averett in Lovell, WY, joining an older brother Keith Maxwell Averett.
The family moved around a lot due to her dad’s employment on construction jobs. Their mother left them when Vickie was 2½ and Keith was 5. They lived in a little house next to Grandma and Grandpa Averett and Grandma helped raise them. Years later, Vickie moved to Cowley, WY to live with her dad’s brother and his wife, Jim and Celesta Averett.
In April of 1954, Vickie’s dad married Mae Graham and reluctantly Vickie moved in to form a new family. Vickie gained a new sister in Dorothy, who was 5 years younger.
Vickie married Frank Herren from Nebraska on July 21, 1957. They lived in Texas for awhile but came back to Lovell where they spent the rest of their lives. Their first-born son, Scott Averett Herren was born on September 18, 1958. He was a bouncing baby boy and brought joy to his parents. Almost a year later, twin sons joined the family – Keith A. and Kent A. were born on August 6, 1959. Vickie really had her hands full with 3 little ones! As you can imagine, Vickie’s life was a full one! A special baby girl, Kathy Jo, joined the family on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1962. Now their family was complete.
Vickie’s hobbies were many – she loved lady bugs and had quite a collection of them. She did a lot of sewing, crocheting, and lots of crafts. She was always busy. She enjoyed going to the mountains and having a wiener roast.
In 1980, Vickie went to nursing school in Powell and became an LPN. She worked at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell for many years and took loving care of many people whom she learned to love.
Vickie passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the care center where she worked for so many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank of 58 years; her parents Ivan and Mae Averett; son Scott Herren; son-in-law Gary Allphin; brothers Keith Averett and George Graham; and sister, Althea Gifford.
