Glenn Ernest Engelking was born in Albion, Idaho to Frank and Clara Engelking.  He was the fourth of five children and attended school in Albion.  He was a submariner while in the Navy and spent time in the Philippines and Pearl Harbor.  In May of 1945 Glenn married Carmel Sater of Albion, Idaho in Chicago, Illinois.  In 1946 Glenn was honorably discharged from the Navy. The couple then went to Salt Lake City, Utah where he played football for the University of Utah.   He received a BS in education, and taught math and science in Lovell, WY.  He also coached football, wrestling, and basketball.

After teaching several years, Glenn returned to the University of Utah where he earned his Master’s Degree.  He then became the Lovell High School Principal in 1963.  He was not finished putting his mark on Lovell High School.  He became Superintendent where he served for 28 years. He was a fiscal conservative.  He was a fair boss and people knew where they stood with him.  He was very dedicated and took pride in the school.

Glenn was a stickler for details and took care of the little things.  He enjoyed golfing, riding his horse “2 Bits”, gardening, and especially working with his roses.  He was honored several times from the City of Lovell for the upkeep of his yard.  He loved his carrots and cucumbers from his garden.  He tended carefully to his gardening never letting a weed grow unless he was sick.
Glenn would spend hours tying his own flies for his kids and grandkids.  He would always say, “You couldn’t be part of this family unless you know how to fly fish!”

He was an avid hunter.  We have many memories of hunting stories with both his kids and grandkids.  His dry sense of humor continued to bring joy to all those around.

Glenn retired in 1989 from the school system.  Throughout his life he was active in the Masonic Lodge, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, the Lovell United Methodist Church, and served several years on the Wyoming School Board of Education.

Glenn had an array of musical talents.  He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed playing the ukulele and singing with his brothers.

He was a great support to his family and loved them very much.  He followed all of his kids and grandkids activities throughout their school years.

He was very service oriented.  He helped his neighbors, worked at the Methodist Church, and was always willing to lend a hand.

He had multiple opportunities to leave Lovell because he was heavily recruited by other schools for his abilities and talents.  He wouldn’t leave because he loved this area and the community.

Glenn passed away February 21, 2012 at his home in Lovell, Wyoming.  He is survived by his wife, Carmel of 67 years, daughters:  Sharla and her husband Robert Zwemer of Frannie, Susan and her husband Steve McArthur of Lovell, Linnea and her husband Brian Dickson of Lovell, and son: Kerry and his wife Cathy Engelking of Casper.  He has 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by his family and community.
