Frances Alberta Alexander Bassett died March 1, 2018, in Lovell. She was 83. Fran arrived in this world on Aug. 21, 1934, in Lovell. She was the third of five children born to Frank Epperson and Jean Wyllie Alexander.

Fran spent her entire childhood in Byron, where she attended and graduated school as a proud Byron Eagle. After graduation, Fran moved to Denver to attend business school. During her time there she met and married Mervin Cruthers. They later divorced, but through this union she was blessed with two beautiful children, Barbara Jean and Steven Alexander. After a short stay in Kansas, where she learned to hate the wind and tornadoes, Fran moved back home to Wyoming.

Once back in her beloved Wyoming, Fran met and married Dan Bassett and welcomed three more beautiful children, Thomas Alexander, Mae Danise, who died in infancy, and Rae Marie. This completed her family, and she set about raising her children. Fran and Dan lived in a few places around the area before settling for good in Byron.

Fran worked at the Byron school as a secretary for a time, then moved on to be the “Office Queen” at NEPECO, where she was essential in the office there for many years.

After leaving NEPECO, she was able to stay at home and serve her family in so many ways. Her home became the center of the universe to her family. Countless holidays, special occasions and family gatherings were held at Fran and Dan’s home. It was where you could find children and grandbabies, aunts, uncles and cousins, and all sorts of extended family, including friends who became family. Fran cared for many: grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Enough can’t be said for the care and love Fran extended to them. Her home was their home, too. Fran loved her family dearly and showed it in the love and attention that she gave to each of them. For many years Fran cared for her mother and for a time her sister Lucille as their health declined, and Fran was a true angel to them.

Fran loved fishing and camping, especially when the grandchildren could go on the trips with her. She was an avid sports fan and loved supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities. She was a member of the Byron Lions Club for many years. She worked tirelessly for the town of Byron and the people in the community.  She and Dan served as caretakers of the Byron and Penrose cemeteries and after Dan became ill, she continued on as caretaker with her daughter Marie.

Fran’s declining health led her to move to Cowley and live with daughter Barb and son-in-law Bob for the past several years.  She enjoyed her time in their home and greatly appreciated the care that she was given.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dan, her two daughters Mae Danise Bassett and Rae Marie Bassett and her sisters Lucille Petrich and Viola Asay. Fran is survived by her daughter Barb (Bob) Acton of Cowley, her sons Steve (Debbie) Bassett and Tom (Toni) Bassett, both of Lovell, 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren with one on the way, two great-great-grandchildren and her brothers Bert Alexander of Oregon and Frank Alexander of Washington.

Services were held Monday, March 5, 2018, in Byron at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints with burial in the Byron Cemetery next to her husband Dan. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her service and the love she gave to her family and friends.
